Things That Used to be Exotic

hormel

Ah, here we are again, planning our New Year’s party menu. What to serve, what to serve…

Thank goodness for Hormel!  We can have an international dinner!! Just like that wild Italian food that we’ve loved from Chef Boy’ar’dee…it’s authentic!

Those “far-away land” dishes that are among the hardest in the world to make – Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Cacciatore and Kottbullar (Swedish Meatballs)!  And in cans no less!  What a joy!

Just pop a few tops, dirty a few saucepans and warm up those chafing dishes…your New Year revelers will think you’ve slaved for DAYS!!  Of course, being the ultimate housewife, you’ll have to make sure you get rid of all the cans (what with 26 people coming, you’ll need a few cans…), rub some flour on your face, pull down a piece from your Italianesque hairdo and fool them all!

Oh, and don’t forget to stock the bar.  No one notices the food after a few martinis.

Isn’t it nice living in this “jet age” where we can get all these exotic foods right in our own supermarket?  What did we ever do before?

No party for us this year..... but in times past, I would love to have tamales, chili and cheese. Talk about heart burns...Ugh!

We just might pop a top!!
Hugs,
Serve a few drinks early in the evening, then sliced Spam will seem like a Gourmet Hors D'oeuvres.

Once a year we have a pot luck dinner party "I would never eat that" which is your favorite dish that no one else likes. Spam soup is always a hit, or whatever the opposite of hit is.

What did we ever do before you ask! Well, we didn't develop stomach problems for one and we didn't fall for all this mush! lol
Hope you have something more palatable Barbara for New Years! Have a good one.

I hope you won't be hurt if I skip your party this year. No, of course it has nothing to do with what you're serving. I'm not so shallow as to make a decsion based on who's serving what!

Whew, hated all the canned kids foods when I was a kid. I can't imagine the adult food was much better.

Good thing we were too poor to afford the "rich" canned food lol...
