An Incredibly Sad Day

I’d had a bummer Friday.

My weekend wasn’t much better.

But the email I feared showed up in my inbox this morning and ruined my Monday.

Lilac was gone.

I loved Lilac.  I loved everything about her.  Her grumpiness, her love of saving Timmy, her demands for beds and fans, her unwillingness to be carried by anyone female.  She was my blog “heart dog”.  If I could have hand picked a dog perfect in every way, it would have been Lilac.

And now she was gone.

I knew Mr. and Mrs. Taleteller gave Lilac all the love they could give her and more.  They indulged her whims, they checked for Timmy when they knew there was no Timmy, and they accommodated her every need.  As she approached her sixteenth birthday, I sent a note to Mrs. Taleteller asking that if for any reason, Lilac had to take her leave, could she please send me an email before she posted, as I was sure I could not control my emotions if I stumbled on the post.

What I neglected to consider was my emotions when I got the email.

So, with tears still streaming down my face, I wish Lilac Godspeed and thank her for the gift of her life with the Taletellers.  I’m sure Bunny, Blueberry and Morgan are beside themselves right now, both grieving and trying to comfort the hooman’s.  And the hooman’s are holding tight to the houndie’s.

We know that Lilac will be greeted by many houndie’s at the bridge, and that she’ll run free and without restriction.

But…what will we do?

Isn't it so hard when we lose our dog friends? My friend lost one of her bichons last week. It was a rather fast illness, which is probably a blessing in itself, but he will be missed, he was such a sweet dog. I myself have a 12 year old bichon and I dread the day...

Hope your puppy friends at home help you perk up.
We felt the same as you. We knew it was coming and with every post, we so hoped we wouldn't see that she was gone. She was quite the lady, and we all loved her.

Your post in her honor is very touching.

Your post is beautiful! I think what's touching about Lilac is that she lived the way we all want to, and she wasn't afraid to. She was fearless and larger than life. If they'd just come up with a cure for old age, I'm pretty sure she'd have lived forever.

Beautiful tribute to our favorite lady in purple with red hat!
Dear Barbara
So many are sad tonight, and at the same time remembering what a sweet perfect girl Lilac was.
Her family gave her the best home ever,, and her life was the best.
There is no good time to say goodbye.
What can we do? We can sit together and hold paws, and we can remind Lilac's family that they are being circled with everyones love.
Many loved Lilac.
Your tribute is beautiful

We are very sorry to hear that you have lost a friend. Think of her often, carry a happy memory in your mind and heart. The hurt will fade, but the memory will live on as a tribute.

Barbara,

As a fellow "#1 Lilac Fan," your tribute is beautiful.
We didn't know Lilac and we're so sorry that we didn't. She was a beautiful girl and looked to be quite the character. Our hearts ache for her family.

Love ya lots,
